Championing the Rights of Care Experienced Children

We are delighted to share that Heol Chwarae Rol – Role Play Lane has once again been featured in Children in Wales Magazine, this time in the Summer 2026 edition, Championing the Rights of Care Experienced Children.

Our article, "Creating Spaces Where Children Feel Safe, Seen and Supported", explores the important role community organisations can play in supporting care experienced children and young people alongside statutory services. It reflects on our journey towards trauma-informed practice, the importance of safe, relationship-based spaces and how partnerships with organisations including Foster Wales and the Regional Adoption Collaborative are helping us continue to learn and grow.

The article also shares how our organisational development, including our Theory of Change and family journey mapping, has influenced our practice, alongside the positive impact of lived experience within our volunteer team and the value of community partnerships in creating opportunities for children and families.

We are incredibly proud to have contributed to three editions of Children in Wales Magazine, each exploring a different aspect of children's rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC):

🍂 Winter 2025Article 31: The right to rest, leisure, play and participation in cultural life.

🌸 Spring 2026Article 12: Babies, children and young people's participation in practice.

☀️ Summer 2026Article 20: Championing the rights of care experienced children.

Being invited to contribute to three consecutive editions is a real honour and reflects our commitment to sharing learning, championing children's rights and contributing to national conversations that help improve outcomes for children, young people and families across Wales.

We would like to thank Children in Wales for providing a platform to share our experiences alongside so many inspiring organisations from across Wales.
